Not a roadmap-only PM job. The first phase is making the early paid customer pilots work, in person with the customers, and turning what they teach into the product.
SureHost is hiring its founding product manager as a part-time 1099 engagement of roughly 10 to 20 hours a week, with the stated intention of growing the scope over three to six months and a possible move to a full-time contractor or employee role. The listing runs from October 2026 to September 2027.
At this stage customer execution and product management are the same job. You own the day-to-day success of the early paid pilots, work directly with the operators using the product, keep customer, founder, product, AI and engineering work moving on the same priorities, and turn what the pilots teach into requirements. There is no finished playbook; writing it is part of the role.
What you will do
- Own the day-to-day execution and success of the early paid customer pilots
- Work directly with customers to understand how they operate and what they need
- Keep customer, founder, product, AI and engineering work aligned on the same priorities
- Turn customer workflows, problems and pilot learnings into product requirements
- Decide what matters now, what can wait, and what never needs to become product
- Identify gaps and make pragmatic trade-offs where there is no obvious answer
- Build the first product and operating rhythms that carry forward as customers are added
- Take increasing ownership of roadmap, prioritisation, requirements and delivery as the company grows
What the posting asks for
- Meaningful 0 to 1 product work, and the wish to do it again at close range
- Experience taking an early product from customer pilots toward something repeatable
- The ability to move between a customer conversation and a technical discussion without losing the thread
- Hands-on habits: figure it out, write it down, test it with a customer, clarify it for engineering
- Experience working closely with engineering and AI teams
- Strong product judgment, clear customer communication, structure without bureaucracy
Nice to have
- Based in Iowa; Iowa candidates are strongly preferred
A player-coach brief in a two-continent team: customers in Des Moines, engineering in Pune. The part-time start with a full-time path is the fractional pattern done right. Braintrust shows the role as 40 hours a week in its header; the description itself says 10 to 20 hours to begin with, so clarify the hours in the first conversation.
SureHost builds tools that help short-term rental operators run and grow their businesses. The customer and product team sits in Des Moines, Iowa; the technical and AI team is in Pune, India. The company is working with its first paid customer pilot and preparing a broader US expansion in 2027, and it uses AI-driven video review and workflow agents in the product.
